Mission: Since 1995, Milwaukee LISC has worked to strengthen the city by bringing together financial and technical resources to reinvigorate many of its great neighborhoods. LISC uses its financial resources to assist local residents and community organizations in a comprehensive program of neighborhood renewal.

Milwaukee LISC has been the catalyst for new affordable housing and commercial development throughout the city. LISC also funds training in organizational and asset management, strategic planning and real estate development and finance.

LISC provides community development corporations (CDCs) with the expertise and the capital they need to revitalize their communities:

  • Predevelopment financing: "recoverable" grants and loans--to allow CDCs to prepare development projects
  • Construction and mini-permanent financing for real estate development projects
  • Capacity building assistance in the form of training and capacity-building grants
  • Advocacy in connection with relevant policy issues
  • Sharing of best practices and networking with exemplary organizations and programs around the country
  • Equity for real estate projects through LISC's affiliate, the National Equity Fund

Providing services in:

Finance (LISC provides financing and technical assistance to nonprofit development organizations that undertake real estate development projects.)

Planning (LISC will work with neighborhood groups to help organize and plan projects.)

Trends & Research (LISC is currently working with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago to examine regional economic and racial housing patterns.)
